About Our Inspectors

The majority of our work is performed by the owners of the company, Scott Gressin and Paul Gressin.

Paul Gressin

Paul Gressin is the President and a Senior Inspector of Professional Building Inspectors, Inc. He has been inspecting both residential and commercial properties since 1969. Mr. Gressin was the Governor's Appointee to the Department of State Home Inspector Council and was tasked with writing the Standards of Practice that all licensed home inspectors are required to follow.

In addition to his expertise in property inspections, Mr. Gressin has over three decades of experience in construction trades. He is a member of the National Association of Home Inspectors (NAHI) and has been awarded NAHI's highest designation, that of Certified Real Estate Inspector. Mr. Gressin is a past president of the Metropolitan Association of Home Inspectors, the founding chapter of NAHI in New York State. Mr. Gressin is a licensed New York State Home Inspector.

Mr. Gressin has also earned the title of Council-certified Indoor Environmental Consultant (CIEC) by the American Council for Accredited Certification in recognition of his completion of training and demonstrated competence in indoor air quality assessments. He continually uses this knowledge as an expert witness in legal matters.

In 1972 Mr. Gressin founded Professional Building Inspectors to meet the demands of many purchasers and law firms working with in the construction and real estate fields, long before home inspections became a common element of purchasing a home. In the 1980s, outbreaks of Legionnaires' Disease and Sick Building Syndrome caused us to expand our services to meet the needs of our clients for environmental assessments. Today we are continually adding new services, such as thermal imaging and EIFS inspections, so that we remain current with new technology. The goal of the company has always been to provide clients with valuable information before they enter into a major expenditure. This protects the interests of our clients and also their investment.

Mr. Gressin is licensed as a NYS Home Inspector with vast experience in his field. This, along with his qualifications and training in environmental and construction-related assessments, enables him to give clients a comprehensive inspection.

Scott Gressin has earned the coveted title of Council-certified Indoor Environmental Consultant (CIEC) from the American Council for Accredited Certification (ACAC). This certification is in recognition of his completion of training, field experience, and demonstrated competence in indoor air quality assessments. It is the highest level of certification awarded by the ACAC.

Mr. Gressin is a NYS and EPA licensed Asbestos and Lead inspector and a Lead Paint Risk Assessor. Mr. Gressin is also a member of multiple boards for the American Council for Accredited Certification.

Mr. Gressin holds a certification in Building Science Thermography (CBST) and over the years has performed countless inspections on both residential and commercial properties for water intrusion and construction defect recognition. He is certified as a CEI, Certified EIFS (External Insulation and Finish System) Inspector through the Association of the Wall and Ceiling Industry.

In addition to Mr. Gressin's building science related expertise, he is a graduate from the State University of New York at Albany with degrees in Biology and Chemistry. Following his undergraduate education, he attended the State University of New York at Stony Brook where he earned a degree in medicine as a Physician Assistant. He has been practicing medicine in this capacity since 1999 and continues to practice clinically at University Hospital at the State University of NY at Stony Brook.

This unique combination of medicine and construction has helped Mr. Gressin understand the implications of indoor air quality on optimal health and the building related issues that can result in poor indoor air quality.
